BCAA are building blocks for tissue protein, accounting for 35% of the essential amino acids in muscle and also have other metabolic functions also. Various studies endorse that Branched Chain Amino acids are known to support muscle fiber synthesis. BCAAs (Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine), particularly Leucine, have anabolic effects on protein metabolism by increasing the rate of protein synthesis and decreasing the rate of protein degradation in resting human muscle and during recovery from endurance exercise. Among the three BCAA, leucine express specific function in activation of the mTOR signaling pathway and enhance protein synthesis. Physiological and metabolic functions of BCAA help to increase the secretion of insulin. High levels of BCAA enhance lipolysis and help to reduce fat mass.
BCAA, especially isoleucine, play a major role in enhancing glucose consumption and utilization and enhance glycogen synthesis. BCAA up-regulate innate and adaptive immunity. Glutamine is known to exert anti-catabolic property and Citrulline is precursor of arginine to ensure better blood flow and supply of nutrient & oxygen to working muscles.
